You forget how young they are.

This is from a terrific piece on the Denver Post blog. It's called, Ian Fisher, American Soldier. It follows Fisher from his enlistment, through his first deployment and home.

Click on the picture for a better view.

Goddamn, now look at those faces. If these kids had shown up on my doorstep last Saturday, I would have given them candy.

Kids. We send kids to war. It's obscene.

Credit to Kevin P. for sending me to this site.

I ran across a compilation of that blog a month or so ago. It was an interesting just seeing how a young guy was having trouble adjusting to Army life. The blog has a photo of Fisher getting counseled by a couple sergeants. The sergeants were about my age and all I thought was, "How can those guys deal with all these kknuckleheaded 19 year olds?"

On the flip side is an article about a 39 year old who joined up for the health coverage benefits. http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/64677772.html

The more I look at that picture the more those guys look like junior high kids at a "learn about the Army" day.

I know, especially the two on the right. Are they even old enough to shave?

This (your link to the photo story) was terrific, Dave. Really.

They look about the same age as most of the high school kids I saw today on the staten island ferry heading to the parade.
