I'm not one of those guys who wants to gut the Second Amendment. I own firearms and I shoot them. However, I do believe people should be trained in how to safely handle a firearm before they can purchase one.
Case in point: Here's famous moose-shooter, Sarah Palin examining a firearm. She's considered quite the hunter, and yet she obviously needs more training.
Can you spot the potentially lethal mistake she's making in this picture? Believe me, if I'd held my rifle like this I'd have earned a dope slap and a drop-and-give-me-20 from my firearms instructor.
Anyone?

perhaps her finger's on the trigger
You must to be the biggest asshole that ever had a blog on the web.
You must to be the biggest asshole that ever had a blog on the web.
No, that would "to be" me. Idiot.
Next time you try to comment with the big dogs, you anonymous cowardly twat, you need to learn to write English.
Now, back on topic:
Is it the way she's holding the weapon across her body? I'm thinking ejected shells would be a danger.
The rifle ejects to the right. The first response points out the correct safety violation that Terrenoire is likely looking for. To nit-pick even more she is pointing the weapon at (okay, it's indirect) the photographer. Yeah, I'm sure it's unloaded but, the rules are to always be followed and one of those rules is: treat every weapon as if it is loaded.
However, the true and correct answer is: No push-up bra.
"You must to be the biggest asshole that ever had a blog on the web."
You seriously need to add this to the masthead.
No wonder our country is so messed up, with people like Terrenoire and his America haters trying to broadcast their disturbed ideological views.
Anonymous no.2
Er - David and I probably differ politically on a lot of stuff, but damn, this ain't Russia, where you get a polonium pellet for criticizing the government.
And dudes, don't be shy. You have an opinion and a name, let's hear them both.
Oh, and yes, her finger is on the trigger. But there's no magazine and she's looking down at the receiver, not through the scope, so she's obviously not about to shoot or anything.
i knew this anonymous douchebag would be back. Guys like him talk big from behind a mask. Probably just got off the phone from turning in his neighbor for some stupid code violation. Anonymously, of course.
I think that Anonymous 1 and 2 are correct. You're all unAmerican scum. Suggesting that Gov. Palin should wear a push-up is particularly repellent.
She needs a push-up bra and a thong together.
Wow. I never thought that firearms safety would bring out the crazies.
And Jeff is right, "You must to be the biggest asshole that ever had a blog on the web" is definitely masthead material.
I've always aspired to be the best. Considering the millions of assholes who blog, I'm sincerely honored.
As for the safety violation, Gary hit it with the first shot. The finger on the trigger is the firearms faux pas that would have had me doing push ups until I moved the damn planet.
"You must to be ..."
Reminds me of that mispelled "Conferenece" (or however they spelled it) Dusty showed last week (where they were proposing English only ...oy-vey).
The finger on the trigger can't be a good thing ... what scares me is she appears to be cross-eyed.
That would dilute her hotness factor by 1.6 ...
I've thought again about the anonymous poster thing. I think it's OK for these guys to comment without using their names.
Think of the shame it saves their families.
OK, looking at that photo a little closer, it appears Governor Palin is on an electronic range, something that didn't exist when I was in uniform. So I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she's firing or about to fire, which makes her finger on the trigger OK.
But her form really sucks. Her elbow is dropped and the butt stock isn't nestled into the hollow of the shoulder.
Still, I castigated Governor Palin a bit too harshly.
For the rest of you, NEVER put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to fire.
Now, if any of the Anonymouses had pointed that out, they would have revealed themselves to be real men, instead of couchbound warriors. Alas.
Carry on.
I've never had any formal rifle training but I'm pretty sure that "elbows down" is the current method. The reason being that keeping the elbows down helps pull the weapon in tighter for rapid or auto fire. Also, keeping your elbows helps tp keep from whacking a fellow soldier, cop, wannabe in the head when going in and searching a building.
I would like to say that Ms. Saylor seems to be the only intelligent person in this discussion. But, even she seems dim.
YES!!!
Masthead is AWESOME!!!
I never thought that firearms safety would bring out the crazies.
Anything on the Web having to do with firearms brings crazies like moths to a porch light.
Wow, what a great new masthead! That would to be a great t-shirt...
Her finger is on the trigger. Someone said there's no magazine, but that doesn't mean there's no cartridge in the chamber.
Most shooting accidents occur with "empty" firearms.
What the heck? I'm not a "Miss" or a "her".
I've seen your videos, Miss Saylor. I stand by my statement.
Well, you're quite the unpleasant person, Anonymous.
Get off it, Saylor. Everyone knows I'm you and that we just want to take a break from doing real work.
If you want attention go troll on an actual online forum with discussions. Or, better yet, start your own damned blog and we can trade insults over there. What's that? We have a blog and no one reads it anyway? Tough titty and get back to work; you're wasting space and everyone's time over here.
I don't know what you are talking about.
Shut up before we get banned.
"Finger off the trigger 'til your sights are on the target" is what I was taught.
Anonymous Cowards are all sackless keyboard commandoes. I hear you guys have a real problem with Dorito crumbs stuck in your buttcracks (Except, of course, for the Anonymous Coward who is or is not Ms. Saylor).
I'm male. I'm a Mr.
Sorry to come late to this game. And I will qualify (versus quantify) my reponse noting that I am too lazy to open a Google account, and therefore will officially be noted as "An onymous" as well.
OK, that said, I applaud the Original A for his quote: "You must to be the biggest asshole that ever had a blog on the web."
Grammer aside, I've known David for over a quarter century. And truer words have never been spoken.
But still, Orig, you are a fucking moron. Seriously. Take your hate to a place where it's appreciated and leave the adults alone.
PS: Bet a shiny dime you never served, or even know how to properly handle a firearm. Just sayin'
Spike in Raleigh if you're askin'. And you go ahead and ask, shitbird.
"I'm male. I'm a Mr."
What to believe? What to believe?
Meanwhile, you haven't lived until you've held in your hands the Sarah Palin Commemorative AR-15, finished in Northern Winterwoods camo, recently announced in the pages of American Rifleman.
No, I am not making this up.
I'm a DUDE.
I'd like to have a AR but I don't want one with Palin's face all over it. (or her boobs.)
Cripes – after the goofy resignation speech, now it looks as if the durn rifle might have some bizarre collectors value to it after all.
I was in a gunshop in Scottsdale a few yearsa ago looking at mlitary surplus rifles. There was an SKS there with a trading card of one of the teen actresses from 90210 shellacked onto the stock. Maybe I should have bought that.
Once again Ms. Saylor opens up her yaping maw. Quit trying to make us look better by attempting butchness with your gunshop references. The only thing we ever bought at that store - after multiple visits over several years - was a holster and a speed loader.
Anything on the Web having to do with firearms brings crazies like moths to a porch light.
I just remembered that the above comment by Rhoades applies to the mind-boggling tedious ramblings of Ms. Saylor.
